I Have Weak Ankles and Other Things

Allieology

My first two weeks of this new lifestyle I've implemented went pretty well. I discovered a lot about myself, but I still have a long way to go. Philip even joined in and is providing lots of motivation, specifically to workout. Knowing that he's doing this with and for me is a huge help and is making me hold myself more accountable, because I want him to get healthy and fit too.

BIG BIG Scale Victory!

I had originally promised myself that I was only gonna weight and measure once a month. Well that was a lie. I just couldn't resist. I had noticed a small change and braved the scale. All my hard work and good choices paid off!

I did well logging all of my food into my LoseIt app, but transitioned to MyFitnessPal (Cause I can link it with MapMyFitness!!). It's starting to become a nice little post meal habit. My thought process in choosing foods has changed drastically, though. It's more about what's healthier for me and Philip, than what's easier to make or the tastiest treats. However, I still can't give up sweets (or waffles) altogether, so I just compromise with fruit, low fat frozen yogurt, and only two chocolate chip cookies instead of five or six (oops, that's what happens when you don't pay attention to what goes in your mouth). I learned that my willpower is stronger than I thought and that I can satisfy my cravings without overdoing it.

Don't forget to check out Melissa's blog!

With Philip as my cheerleader, working out has become more fun. He started doing the C25K program with me, along with the strength training routine I developed. I found out, painfully, that I have weak ankles, which lead me to the decision to go back to the basics and walk for two weeks, then do each day in the C25K program twice, at least in the beginning, until I build up my strength and stamina. I would rather not injure myself in such a way that puts me out of business for so long that I lose my willpower and motivation. But I did manage to add some WiiFit Yoga to our workout regimen, and my back is thanking me every morning. I mentioned this to my mom the other day (she has a WiiFit and bad back as well) and I think she may jump on the bandwagon!

Hell yeah! Check out that Calorie Burn!

Sunday is usually our rest day, however, I felt like I was missing something. I think I may at least do yoga, so I don't fall back into my old sedentary ways. This past week, we took our "rest day" on Friday, and Sunday we went hiking. Yes, you read that correctly, hiking! The trails at Ha Ha Tonka State Park are pretty challenging, but I pushed through and ended up having great results! Those of you who follow me on Instagram and/or Twitter probably saw this already, but I don't care. I am very proud of myself!

I'll write more about our day trip to Ha Ha Tonka another day, but here's a sneak peak at the pics and selfies we took :)

So worth the climb!

    1. Thanks! Normally I am not one for outdoor activities like that, but I just couldn't pass up the castle ruins in the park! And once I saw the calorie burn I turned to Philip and informed him we would be coming back to do it again.

  2. So glad your boyfriend is on board with you! I'm hoping that when I'm back together with my boyfriend (we're long distance right now - him in CA, me in SC), I can get him on board with my fitness journey. :)

That park looks like lots of fun!

    1. My trick is to invite him and make it seem like it's more fun than it really is!

    1. Aww thanks :)

I am now using My Fitness Pal to track my calorie intake and Map My Fitness to track my workouts. There are tons you can choose from, and it will let you play your music too! If you are walking or running it updates you on distance and times, and at the end you can see how many calories you burned. You can sync MMF to MFP to automatically get your exercises logged which is super convenient and way more accurate than imputing them in manually.

  5. Congrats on your weight loss! That's a huge achievement! I weigh/measure once a week and it's so much better than waiting an entire month! It looks like you have a great plan going! Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see the rest of your progress! Thanks for linking up!

    1. Thanks! I think I am going to weigh and measure every other week. Every weeks seems to be too much, and like you said, a month is hard to wait for.
